Debt Retirement Charge Exemption
Effective January 1, 2016, all electricity users with a residential-rate class account are exempt from the Debt Retirement Charge (DRC) for electricity consumed after December 31, 2015.
Non-residential general service-rate class customers where electricity is provided to one or more “eligible residential units” are also eligible for a DRC exemption up to 1,500 kWh per month multiplied by the number of eligible residential units. The exemption is available for electricity consumed after December 31, 2015.
An “eligible residential unit” is a unit that:
a) is a self-contained set of rooms located in a building or structure,
b) contains kitchen and bathroom facilities that are intended for the use of the unit only, and
c) is used or intended for use as residential premises.
Note: to qualify, the unit must meet all three criteria
To be eligible for the DRC exemption, customers must complete a DRC Self-Declaration Form and return it to Brantford Power by December 31, 2015 to ensure the exemption is reflected on their January 2016 bill.
If we receive the form on or after January 1, 2016, your exemption will begin:
- on the first day of the billing period in which the notice is received (but not before January 1, 2016), or
- the first day of the next billing period, if the notice was received within 10 days of the end of the billing period.
The exemption is not available for billing periods before the billing period in which the notice was received.
For information on the Self-Declaration Form, call our Customer Service Department at 519-751-3522 or email us at email@example.com.
